Fiber Painting Study No. 92

These small, abstract works on paper are what Emma calls fiber paintings. They are created using the smallest parts of textile waste. The material comes from artists, makers and designers from around the world. As a result, each piece is unique in color and style.

In Emma’s process, she uses a paintbrush and painter’s medium to push and pull the fibers along the paper. The artist paints with the fibers. Then, she often adds pencil and acrylic paint to highlight the form of the fibers.  Once complete, each artwork is signed and sprayed with a fixative sealant.
